Hi. My name is Marty Bernstein. I've been a math teacher/tutor for the past fifteen years. During that time, I've tutored hundreds of students. I tutor some students throughout the school year -- assisting them from September through June. Many students want me to continue with them during the summer - to get them ready for an upcoming school year.
I know how frustrating and intimidating math can be for some. It's no fun to feel lost in a subject. Math builds on itself - if you miss the point of a lesson, it can really lead to more and more confusion. I'm very patient and supportive. I model problems by showing step-by-step solutions. Once a student feels confident, it leads to greater achievement and more self-sufficiency.
In addition to curriculum-based tutoring for school subjects, I specialize in tutoring for the SAT and ACT math exams. I got started in teaching with The Princeton Review, a preparatory service for those exams. I've had students who I've tutored for those exams greatly exceed their expectations. The key to success on the SAT and ACT is, of course, preparation - learning the material. But, it's also learning what kinds of questions are asked and it's learning techniques to help you answer a question.
